died Aug. 12, 2008.
She was born Oct. 17, 1956, in
Lansing. She was a graduate of
University of Michigan Medical School.
What was most important to her was
being a mother.
Dr. Frietag is survived by her son,
Alex Freitag of Plymouth; daughter,
Laura Freitag of Plymouth; brother,
Alan (Karrie) Smookler of Evanston,
Ill.; sister, Betty (David) Simon of East
Lansing; former husband and good
friend, Les Freitag of Plymouth.
She was the daughter of the late
Dr. Bernard Smookler and the late
Judith Smookler; sister of the late Ruth
Smookler.

Mrs. Kusnit was the beloved wife of
the late Nathan Kusnit; loving sister of

DR. HERBERT B. MALOS, 83, of
Farmington Hills, died Aug. 11, 2008.
He received his Ph.D. in psychology
from the University of Minnesota in
1952 before moving to Detroit with his
wife, Betty. He began working at the
Veteran's Administration Hospital in
Allen Park, where he stayed for 28 years
until his retirement in 1980.
During his career with the VA, Dr.
Malos served veterans of the Spanish-
American War, World War I and II, the
Korean and Vietnam wars. He even
interviewed a Civil War veteran dur-
ing his internship. One of his proudest
