The Benard L. Maas Foundation, in
cooperation with the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit, invites indi-
viduals to submit nominations for the
Benard L. Maas Prize for Achievement
in Jewish Culture and Continuity. This
year's award will be given in the area of
fine arts, including visual, media,
multi-disciplinary arts and architecture.
The Maas Prize celebrates and hon-
ors individuals whose work enhances
Jewish life and community, and
encourages the exploration of Jewish
cultural issues and the creation of
-
Jewish art.
To be eligible, the artist must be
located in Michigan. The individual
may be a working artist, scholar or
educator who makes a unique contri-
bution to the Jewish community.
A monetary prize of $3,500 and a
certificate of achievement will be
awarded at a public ceremony.
The deadline for nominations is
Nov. 1. To obtain an application pack-

Individuals must submit a statement
of artistic intent, at least two slides of
representative work, two letters of sup-
port and a curriculum vitae. Self-nomi-
nations are encouraged.

SAJE Focus: 2004 Election

"Election 2004: The Impact on the
Jewish Community" will be explored at
a forum presented by Seminars for
Adult Jewish Enrichment (SAJE) 7-9
p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the Jewish
Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
Democratic State Rep. Sander Levin
and Brad Blakeman, a former senior
official in the Bush White House, will
lead a panel discussion on key issues of
concern to the Jewish community in
the presidential race, including Israel,
the economy, health care, the environ-
ment and the war in Iraq.
Eric Adelman, government relations
director of the Jewish Community
Council of Metropolitan Detroit, will
serve as moderator. Participants will
have the opportunity to meet and talk
with candidates for the State House of
Representatives at a dessert reception
following the formal program.
Rabbi Lauren Berkun will frame the
forum with a presentation on
"Becoming a Model American Citizen:
