Olympic Gold
Proves Elusive
Salt Lake City/JRM — Jewish athletes
had limited success in Salt Lake City
during the 17-day Olympic competi-
tion.
In women's figure skating, Sasha
Cohen, a California teen-ager, finished
fourth. Irina Slutskaya of Russia fin-
ished second, but she does not identify
as Jewish.
In women's ice hockey, goalie Sara
DeCosta took home silver. She and her
American teammates were defeated by
Canada 3-2 in the gold-medal game.
In ice dancing, Israeli pairs Galit .
Chalit and Segei Sakhnovsky placed
sixth, while Alexei Beletski and Natalia
Gudina finished 19th.
Short-track speed skater Daniel
Weinstein, a student at Harvard
University, had his medal hopes dashed
in the finals of the men's 5,000-meter
relay. After advancing to the finals, the
U.S. team sputtered to a fourth-place
finish.
Women's short-track speed skater
Olga Danilov, who represented Israel,
did not place in the three races that she
entered.

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit is hiring
counselors to help children with
special needs attend the JCC sum-
• mer day camps.
Applicants should be at least 17,
responsible and enthusiastic. They
will be paired one-to-one with a
camper with special needs to sup-
port that camper's participation in
the inclusive program.
Counselors will have the oppor-
tunity to adapt and modify day
camp activities in such a way to
allow the camper to participate in
the program. The job's primary
responsibility is to join the camper
in such activities as swimming,
sports, music, crafts and drama.
Camp begins June 17 and runs
through Aug. 8. Training will be
provided prior to the start of the
camp season. During their employ-
ment, counselors will receive a free
JCC membership. For information
