Olympic Gold Proves Elusive Salt Lake City/JRM — Jewish athletes had limited success in Salt Lake City during the 17-day Olympic competi- tion. In women's figure skating, Sasha Cohen, a California teen-ager, finished fourth. Irina Slutskaya of Russia fin- ished second, but she does not identify as Jewish. In women's ice hockey, goalie Sara DeCosta took home silver. She and her American teammates were defeated by Canada 3-2 in the gold-medal game. In ice dancing, Israeli pairs Galit . Chalit and Segei Sakhnovsky placed sixth, while Alexei Beletski and Natalia Gudina finished 19th. Short-track speed skater Daniel Weinstein, a student at Harvard University, had his medal hopes dashed in the finals of the men's 5,000-meter relay. After advancing to the finals, the U.S. team sputtered to a fourth-place finish. Women's short-track speed skater Olga Danilov, who represented Israel, did not place in the three races that she entered. Who says moving to a retirement community means giving up space?
