Hockey — on the ice or in-line — is a Shencopp family pasttime.

seems that Marshall Shencopp's feet
have always been on the ice in one way
or another.
He's been a hockey player, organizer,
coach, referee and — his most important role
— a hockey dad. Teaching himself ice hockey
in his 20s, Shencopp became an instrumental.
player in the city of Oak Park's hockey pro-
gram, and eventually coached Detroit's highest
amateur teams in AAA hockey.
Partnering with another Oak Parker, the
now retired professional hockey player Mike
Hartman, Shencopp developed both the

Hockey America and Hockey Central schools
and day camps.
With the Shencopp family, hockey is a
family affair. Debbie, Marshall's wife, has
worked on the board of directors for the
Southfield Hockey Club and managed teams
throughout the metro area. She has been an
avid recreational figure skater all her life.
Her dad, Jack Carp, played amateur hockey
in the 1940s and '50s. After Debbie and
Marshall married, the two men played and
coached alongside each other.
Marshall got their four children up on
skates when each turned 4. Devin, now 16,
Alexa, 14, Zachary, 12, and Aaron, 8, all start-
ed off learning hockey as defensive players. "It
