Marshall says. "You get a better per-
spective from that vantage point.
Hockey has given them the character-
istics to work hard at something they
love. And it is done without much
prodding."
While the Shencopps are always up
for a three-on-three family scrim-
mage, there isn't as much time these
days to fool around in the rink.

Hockey is a family affair for Marshalh Debbie, Devin, Zachary and Aaron Shencopp.
hockey — "often in four directions,"
says Debbie.
Devin, who will be a junior at
Berkley High School this fall, plays all
the forward spots on the Honeybaked
AAA team, which travels almost every
weekend, September through March.
Recently, he was one of the 20 players
in his age group chosen for the USA
Hockey/Team Michigan tournament,
which was held in Minnesota.
With a goal to play college hockey
at Michigan State University, Devin
says, "There's not much time left
between hockey and school."
The Shencopps' daughter, Alexa,
has no problem keeping up with her
three brothers, who often tell her that
"girls' hockey is not real hockey." She
played every position on co-ed teams,
but switched to the all-girls
Birmingham Rangers two years ago.

and forward on a Mite team in
Southfield, as well as for the
Mustangs, a Berkley in-line hockey
team. "He has seen and he :rd more
than he will ever need to see in the
locker rooms over the years," Debbie
laughs. Aaron attends Berkley's Avery
Elementary in Oak Park.
Marshall's interests in teaching and
in children has led the family on
another hockey journey. Marshall has
been named the general manager and
director of all hockey programs at the
newly opened InLine Hockey Center
at the Jewish Community Center in
West Bloomfield.
