CART WALDMAN Special to the Jewish News seems that Marshall Shencopp's feet have always been on the ice in one way or another. He's been a hockey player, organizer, coach, referee and — his most important role — a hockey dad. Teaching himself ice hockey in his 20s, Shencopp became an instrumental. player in the city of Oak Park's hockey pro- gram, and eventually coached Detroit's highest amateur teams in AAA hockey. Partnering with another Oak Parker, the now retired professional hockey player Mike Hartman, Shencopp developed both the I t Hockey America and Hockey Central schools and day camps. She has been an avid recreational figure skater all her life. Her dad, Jack Carp, played amateur hockey in the 1940s and '50s. After Debbie and Marshall married, the two men played and coached alongside each other. Marshall got their four children up on skates when each turned 4. Devin, now 16, Alexa, 14, Zachary, 12, and Aaron, 8, all start- ed off learning hockey as defensive players. "It
