early 15 years to the day that
his father earned the highest
honor bestowed by the
Technion-Israel Institute of
Technology in Haifa, Larry Jackier
duplicated the feat, accepting an hon-
orary fellowship on June 4. It marked
the first time a father and son have each
won the honorary fellowship.
.The late Joseph Jackier received the
honor on June 13, 1985, in recognition
of his work on behalf of the Technion,
his promotion of science and technology
in Israel, and his service to the Jewish
community.

Rob, weren't able to accompany their

mony. But on their behalf, Larry wrote:
"Dear Dad, as you accept this honor
from the Technion, you should take
equal pleasure in the knowledge that,
while you were devoting significant por-
tions of your life in service to numerous
Jewish causes, you were, at the same
time, able to imbue in your children
your joy in being Jewish and your love
of the Jewish people."
National president of the American
Society for Technion, whose Detroit
offices are in Farmington Hills, Larry
earned the honorary fellowship for his
dedication to the Technion, his leader-
ship of ATS and his commitment to
Israel.
The father-son achievement prompt-
ed Larry to challenge his
daughter Ariana, in his accep-
tance speech, to represent the
third generation of Jackiers as
an honorary fellowship win-
ner.
Larry became acquainted
with the Technion on one of
the first of his 60 visits to
Israel. He said he "saw that the
Technion's cutting-edge
research benefits not only
Israel, whose economic future
rests on high technology, but
so many other people in the
world, who are aided by the
university's research and devel-
opment in water.

ATS Executive Vice President Mel
Bloom said, "It is very fitting that Larry
should receive the same award given to
his father." Bloom described each as a
great Jewish leader. "It has been a privi-
lege to have worked so closely not only
with them, but with Edythe [Jackier] as
well."
Added Morrie Rochlin, president of
ATS's Detroit chapter: "We have been
blessed here in Detroit to have such a
devoted family, like the Jackiers. Joe and
Edythe were instrumental in the early
development of our chapter and now
Larry continues that responsibility along
