Grant Supports
Adult Wellness

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit has received a
grant from the Michigan Office of
Services to the Aging to expand fit-
ness and socialization opportunities
for senior adults.
The $10,000 grant will enable the
purchase of specially designed fitness
equipment for use by senior adults
at the JCC's Jimmy Morris Prentis
Building in Oak Park.
Monies from the grant will be
used to purchase soft-cushioned
treadmills, weights, Therabands,
exercise balls, fit bells, an Aqua Trek
water wheelchair, table tennis equip-
ment and volleyball equipment.
The grant is awarded to multi-
purpose senior centers that serve as a
community focal point for seniors
and provide companionship and
structured programs for frail older
adults in a supportive group setting.
The JCC offers a variety of pro-
grams for active adults, among them
health and fitness programs, con-
certs, lectures, Shabbat and holiday
observances, day trips, parties, movie
presentations, and writing, painting
and woodworking classes.
Beginning this fall, seniors at the
JPM Building will have gym time
between 1 and 3 p.m. and a new
activity daily.
