HELEN LaVINE, 78, of Southfield,
died June 2.
She is survived by her son, Alan
LaVine of Northville; daughter and son-
in-law, Marilynn and Gerald Chisik of
Southfield; brother, Herman Delidow of
Southfield; grandchildren, Steven and
Nicole Chisik, Diana Chisik, Colin
LaVine, Calie LaVine; great-grandchild,
Jazmyn Chisik. Mrs. LaVine was the
beloved wife of the late Stanley LaVine.

DR. SIDNEY LESSER, 73, of
Southfield, died May 29.
He is survived by his wife, Rose
Lesser; son and daughter-in-law, Judd
and Lisa Lesser of Lawrence, N.Y.;
daughters and son-in-law, Nancy and
Yitzchok Wohlberg of Brooklyn, N.Y.,
Marta Lesser of Manhattan, N.Y.; sister,
Ruth Markow of Oak Park; grandchil-
dren, Daniella Lesser, Dovid Lesser,
Yocheved Wohlberg.

Mat Shalom Memorial Park in Livonia.

MARTHA LEWIS, 81, of Farmington,
died June 1.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by her hus-
band of 58 years, Henry Lewis; sons and
daughters-in-law, Rabbi Albert and Dr.
Shirley Lewis of East Grand Rapids,
Jeffrey and Karen Lewis of McLean, Va.;
daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and
Edward Cohon of Walled Lake, Beverly
and Stewart Erlich of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Julie and Shachar Torem,
Jamie and Anthony Masco, Scott
Cohon and fiancee Annat Apel, Robert
Cohon and fiancee Jenifer Kristall,
Judith Erlich, Jacqueline Erlich and
fiance Lee Kellen, Jessica Erlich,
Greyson Lewis and Colby Lewis; three
great-grandchildren; sister and brother-
in-law Sylvia and George Lewis of
Northville; and brothers and sisters-in-
law, David and Enid Manheimer of
Northville, Gus and Beverly Manheimer
of Livonia. She was the loving sister of
the late Irving Manheimer, the late Sol
Manheimer, the late Leo Manheimer
and the late Harry Manheimer.

DR. BENJAMIN MAGDER, 82, of
Oak Park, died May 29.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley
Magder; daughter, Judy Magder of
Louisville, Ky.; sons and daughters-in-
law, Larry and Lisa Magder of
Baltimore, Md., Donald Magder of
Holliston, Mass., Richard and Sarah
Magder of New York, N.Y.; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Jacob and Lottie
Magder, Jesse and Claire Magder,
Wilfred Magder, Joseph Magder; sisters,
Betty Sweet, Anna Kaufman; grandchil-
dren, Amy Doyle, Lindsey Doyle. Dr.
Magder was the loving brother of the
late, Dr. Harry Magder, the late Nettie
Harris, the late Lionel Magder, the late
David Magder; loving brother-in-law of
the late Ada Magder, the late Estelle
Magder.

ALBERT A. MILLER, 77, former
Detroiter of Albuquerque, N.M., died.
He was one of the three founders of the
Detroit law firm of Garan Lucow Miller
and was a highly respected trial attorney
in the metropolitan area, having repre-
sented insurance companies, product
manufacturers, hospitals, municipalities
and judges throughout his career. His
peers recognized his accomplishments
by electing him to the American College
of Trial Lawyers.
Mr. Miller was a veteran of the
World War II; he served in Europe
before enrolling in law school. After
graduation from Wayne State University ,
Law School in 1948, he, Daniel Garan
and Milton Lucow formed the firm that
now has 80 attorneys in nine offices
throughout Michigan. Mr. Miller was
an opera buff, a Great Lakes sailor, an
accomplished skier, an archaeologist
who worked on digs in Turkey and a
formidable handball player.
He moved to Albuquerque in 1995
to be with his youngest children and
grandchildren; there he founded and
taught at the Los Ranchos Elementary
Chess Club. Until recently, he contin-
ued to spend time at his Detroit office
on a regular basis. Mr. Miller was a
member of Congregation Albert of
Albuquerque, Temple Emanu-El of Oak
Park and a supporter of the United
Jewish Appeal.
He is survived by his wife of49 years,
Lenore; sister and brother-in-law, Jean
and Jess Fieler; sons and daughter-in-
