Harbor Steak House in Keego Harbor impresses
with reasonably priced specials.
or a restaurant to be in
business over 35 years, it
has to be doing something
right.
In the case of Harbor Steak House,
on Orchard Lake Road between Com-
merce Road and Cass Lake Road in
Keego Harbor, it is doing a lot of
good things.
So much so that going along year
after year in its own quiet sort of way,
Harbor Steak House has made a big
noise among the faithful regulars who
call it their own.
Back in the 1950s, it was a small,
one-room neighborhood bar that had
a pool table and seated about 35 peo-
ple ... Drinks, burgers, chicken and
chips were the daily fare when broth-
ers Donald and Louie Giordano
bought it in 1961.
In 1974, 13 years later, Donald and
Louie decided to go "big time" by
adding a main dining room that seat-
ed another 90 ... The separate bar-
lounge seats 30, with 15 at the bar.
Louie retired in 1995 ... and his
half interest was taken over by Don-
ald's son, Jeff, and Louie's son, Antho-
ny ... When Donald retired a year
later, the cousins took over the entire
operation.
They were not without prior expe-
rience ... and certainly knew the place
well ... From 1980 to 1995, Jeff and
Anthony ran the kitchen, both chefing
... As 12-year-olds in the sixth grade,
they had also bused tables and washed
dishes for their fathers.
Today, as owners of Harbor Steak
House, which changed its name from
the original Harbor Bar in 1980, they
have added pasta dishes, stuffed
mushroom caps and other items to
the menu. But what has drawn the
most raves is the all-you-can-eat Crab
Legs dinner . . . It's served all day
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (adults,
$14.95; children 10 and under, $9.95)
... Still going strong since the 1970s is
the all-you-can-eat Fish Fry, 5 to 9
p.m. on Fridays, in a lower level that
seats 75.
