Do's and Don'ts
For Job Seekers
DO:
- Get out there and look for a
possible career change, or at least
a better-paying job in your cur-
rent career. Talented candidates
are in high demand.
, Consider a professional
recruiter, instead of floundering
around by yourself in the job
market. There are too many
choices in today's market. The
recruiter is the expert and will
find the right fit for you.
" Make sure the recruiter spe-
cializes in your prospective field.
No sense working with a consul-
tant who is alien to the industry
you want.
• Be amenable to changing
careers. If an opportunity arises
that is not your'dream job, but
points you in a whole new direc-
tion that may brighten your
future — why not? Many skills
are transferable to other job lad-
ders, and no one knows that bet-
ter than a recruiter.

DON'T:
Don't be complacent and
unhappy in your current job,
especially when a new position
my bring you a signing bonus,
stock options, and other perks.
Don't get trapped into pay-
ing a fee to the job recruiter
yourself. Job placement is now
on a contingency basis, with the
client company paying the place-
ment fee to the recruiter. You
scrutinize the opportunities and
make your own decision.
• Don't presume the recruiter
will meet you face-to-face imme-
diately. In many cases, meeting
the recruiter in person is unnec-
essary. You're better off waiting
until an actual job becomes
available before having that ini-
tial meeting.
• Don't let the recruiter try to
place you in an ill-fitting job.
Make sure your resume is
detailed, complete and honest so
that he or she will have all of the
information necessary. The
recruiter often knows what's best
for you — even if you don't.
