SMALL BUS NESS LOANS
Elam does not design products, but
only sells the fiber as an electrical
component. The fiber, which is flexi-
ble, durable and tough, can be twisted
into almost any shape or form and cut
at arbitrary lengths making it ideal for
a wide range of applications. It is elas-
tic in form, remains cool, and comes
in seven colors. It can dim or flicker
like other electrical items, but is also
waterproof and sun-resistant. It is
ready for use and needs only to be
connected to the mains or to a battery
at one side for it to light up. "A car
battery can run hundreds of meters of
fiber for several hours," says Ganor.
"Two meters of fiber can operate for
40 continuous hours or can blink for
more than 100 hours from a 9-volt
battery."
For manufacturers, the possibilities
are endless. One of the biggest areas of
interest has been in the fields of safety
and security. Earlier this year, Elam's
Japanese distributor, Wako 8, began
working with designers to develop sev-
eral new products. The first is a safety
rope used to cordon off dangerous
areas. "During the day the rope has
the usual black and yellow markings,
but at night you can't see them. By

We just didn't think their heart rate would be one of them. Our new, fixed rate loans
have quite a few hearts skipping a beat throughout the small business community, not
to mention among our competitors. Others talk about understanding and appreciating
small businesses but only Comerica proves it with real financial solutions. This great
rate applies to loans used to purchase equipment and/or finance commercial mortgages,
between $25,000 to $500,000. Hurry, our fixed rate offer is available on loans applied
for now through March 31, 1998? We're not sure our competition could take much
more. For more information contactyour Relationship Officer or call 800-829-5214.

The fiber can also be laid along

buildings, hotels or other places.
The technology also promises to
have a profound effect on the sign-
making industry. At present, neon,
which is expensive and cumbersome
to use, is the most common form of
lighting for sign-writing. Livewire,
however, is much more flexible. Signs
can be made easily just by bending the
cable into the required letters or
shape. "You can design your own
sign," says Ganor. "And, because of
batteries, you can take it anywhere."
The possibilities seem endless. The
