Inflation Lower
in Territories

Inflation in Judea and Samaria
was 4.9 percent last year, while
in Gaza the Consumer Price
Index grew 4.1 percent, the
Central Bureau of Statistics re-
ported last week.
In 1992, prices rose 12 per-
cent in Judea and Samaria and
12.9 percent in Gaza. Econo-
mist Jonathan Katz, head of
Economic Modeling and Fore-
casting, explained the sharp
drop was due to the decline in
economic activity.
In addition, given the fact
that the territories' population
is much poorer than Israel's, the
importance of the weight of food
in the territories' consumer bas-
ket is much greater.
Fruits and vegetable prices
fell 8.3 percent in Judea and
Samaria and 5.6 percent in
Gaza. Excluding fruits and veg-
etables prices, the CPI in Judea
and Samaria rose 6.8 percent
and 5.9 percent in Gaza.

Fibronics'
Chinese Deal

Fibronics announced it has
signed a number of joint ven-
ture agreements with compa-
nies operating in China.
The computer communica-
tions system backbone provider
reported signing a distribution
agreement with the Chinese
representative of Control Data.
The representative will present
Fibronics' products in all its bids
in appropriate tenders.
The second agreement was
signed with Anico, an interna-
tional trading company in Bei-
jing. Anico will also work
encouraging business for Fi-
bronics' products. Fibronics has
a permanent Far Eastern agent
located in Japan.

Electro-Optics
Moves Forward

El Op Electro-optics Industries
said last week it has completed
development of its first camera
for use in small and medium
satellites.
The new Earth Resource
Monitoring Sensor (ERMS)
camera, weighing 6.5 kilo-
grams, has a useful range of
400 kilometers with a resolu-
tion of 16 meters.
The ERMS, which El Op
says is extremely light com-
pared to other cameras, is based
on micro-electronics and micro-
optics and sends digital pictures
in real time to ground stations.
According to El Op, the po-
tential market for the first gen-
eration of the camera is in the
tens of millions of dollars.
