srael Aircraft Industries last
week signed an agreement
with jet engine manufactur-
er Pratt & Whitney Canada
for the supply of its PW306A en-
gine for IAI's new executive jet,
the Astra Galaxy.
The signing comes after the
companies agreed that local
subcontractors will be heavily
involved in the manufacture
and upkeep of the engine.

The Galaxy business aircraft,
which is part of a joint venture
with Russia's Yakovlev Design
Bureau, will be able to make
trans-Atlantic flights without
refueling, although not with a
full complement of passengers.
Pratt & Whitney Canada is
a subsidiary of U.S.-based Unit-
ed Technologies and has been
producing the PW300 family of
jet engines for three years.

Fear Of Riots
Cancels Game

Berlin (JTA) - The head of
the Jewish community in
Germany has criticized the
move to cancel an interna-
tional soccer match because
it may become the site of
neo-Nazi riots.
The friendship match bet-
ween Germany and England
was to take place in the city
of Hamburg on April 20,
Adolf Hitler's birthday. The
city-state decided to call the
game off after security forces
said they could not totally
prevent riots of right-wing
extremists.
Hamburg's interior sena-
tor, Werner Hackmann, has
warned that some 10,000
neo-Nazis plan to use the
event to spread racist pro-
paganda, and he warned
that this could seriously
damage Germany's image in
the world.
Ignatz Bubis, chairman of
the Central Council of Jews
in Germany, criticized the
decision.
It was careless to plan the
match on April 20, he said,
but he also warned that

Hamburg's cancellation
"creates the impression that
the state kneels before right-
wing extremists."
An opinion poll by the
Wickert Institute showed
that some 80 percent of all
Germans object to the
cancellation.
The coach of the German
national team has warned
that "if the safety of the
German team and its foreign
guests is not secured, one
cannot be angry that Ger-
many has a bad image
abroad."
The head of the German
Football Association said "if
the Hamburg example will
become accepted, every large
event could be called off be-
cause of rightist ex-
tremists."
Berlin, Munich and
Nuremberg have proposed to
hold the match. If Berlin is
chosen, the match would
take place in the Olympic
stadium where Hitler open-
ed the 1938 Olympic
games.
