Meets Shamir
JERUSALEM (JTA) — A
delegation of five Lebanese
intellectuals met with Is-
rael Foreign Minister Yit-
zhak Shamir. The delega-
tion, the first such group to
visit Israel, included
Thomas Mouhanna, dean of
the faculty of philosophy at
the University of Beirut,
and Robert Ghanem,
president of the Lebaneie-
Supreme Court.
Some members of the
delegation told Shamir that
they supported a peace
agreement between Israel
and Lebanon. But Walid
Khazan, one of President-
elect Bashir Gemayel's ad-
visers, said it was up to the
new government to decide
this issue.
Shamir told the group
that it is now possible to ad-
vance along the road to
peace now that the PLO has
been destroyed militarily
and politically.
The delegation was in-
vited • to Israel by the
Foreign Ministry.
