JERUSALEM (JNI) —
The Vurker Rebbe, Rabbi
Yaacov Baruch Kalish, has
made aliya with the inten-
tion of founding a commu-
nity for his followers in Is-
rael.
The Vurker dynasty,
which originated near War-
saw, was one of the major
Hasidic dynasties before
World War II.
The great-grandfather of
the present Rebbe came to
Eretz Yisrael in 1886 with
some 300 followers. He was
expelled by the Turks some
months later and returned
in 1906, dying the following
year.
The present rabbi is deal-
ing with the Jewish Agency
and the Israel Land
Authority about starting
the Vurker community
here.
