THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Man is a sword, daily in
life is the workshop, God is
the artificer; and those
cares which beat upon the
anvil, and file the edge, and
eat in, acid-like, the inscrip-
tion on the hilt — those are
the very things that fashion
the man.

Greek Premier's
Dad.Was Saved
by Jewish Man

NEW YORK — George
Papandreou, the father of
Greek Prime Minister An-
dreas Papandreou, was re-
scued' by a Jewish man and
secured passage to Turkey
aboard a Greek fishing boat
carrying a group of "illegal"
Jewish immigrants bound
for Palestine, according to a
recent letter in the New
York Times. ,
The letter, written by
Hanna Avriel, was critical
of the Greek premier's
policies toward Israel and
the Jews of Greece. Mrs.
Avriel, who lives on Kibutz
Neot Mordecai, said her late
husband, Ehud Avriel, re-
scued George Papandreou
from a group of Greek fas-
cists in 1947.
"George Papandreou
never forgot my husband
and the Israelis who helped
him," she wrote. "He re-
mained a. true friend of Is-
rael." .
