David Altman, director-
general of Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity, will be guest of honor
and featured speaker at a
meeting of Detroit suppor-
ters Sept. 9 in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Borman,
announced General Chair-
men Dr. Martin Hart and
Norman A. Pappas.
The meeting is in advance
of the Sept. 29 Bar-Ilan
dinner at which Dr. Leon
Fill will be honored.
Altman, whose associa-
tion with Bar-Ilan dates to
1969, is at the age of 41 the
youngest university
director-general in Israel.
In this capacity he oversees
a student body of nearly
11,000 and a combined aca-
demic and administrative
staff of some 1,800 located
on five campuses through-
out the country.
Altman's administra-
tion has been marked not
only by an increase in
construction on campus,
but by significant growth
in the university's over-
seas support as well.

He began his Bar-Ilan
studies in 1969. He was
elected president of its stu,
dent association in 1972
and of the Israel National
Student Union in 1973. He
joined the university's ad-
ministration in 1974, first
as special assistant to the
director-general and in
1975 as deputy director-
general. He was appointed
to the director-general's
position in April 1981.
Hart and Pappas also an-
nounced that Sharon Hart
will again be arrangements
chairman for Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity's annual dinner.
Mrs. Hart has been in-
strumental during the past
two years in re-activating
the Detroit Chapter of the
American Women for Bar-
Ilan, principally by chairing
the Breakfast With Bar-
Ilan series. She was elected
president of the group last
spring.
