of consumer affairs for the
city of Detroit, will speak at
a meeting planned by the
divorced program commit-
tee of SPACE, a service for
widowed and divorced men
and women and their
families, 8 p.m. Thursday in
the National Council of
Jewish Women offices,
16400 W. 12 Mile, South-
field.
Mrs. Shapiro will discuss
"Who Protects the Con-
sumer? You Do!" Mrs. Shap-
iro has been in charge df
consumer education, re-
search and information for
Detroit since 1974. In addi-
tion, she is responsible for
enforcing the city's con-
sumer ordinances.
Prior to assuming her
post with the city, Mrs.
Shapiro was a consumer
specialist for the Michi-
gan Credit Union League.
She has created numer-
ous school programs and
workshops on con-
sumerism and has writ-
ten columns which have
appeared in many Michi-
gan newspapers. Her
daily broadcasts can be
heard over WWJ radio.
