Another landmark was the

committed, of which $115,000
has already been paid in cash.
Congregation appeals ha v e
also been conducted at every
holiday. David J. Cohen was the
key worker in congregation
sales.
Proof that Detroit religious
workers do not plan to rest on
their Bond-selling oars was
_given at the Mizrachi and re-
ligious groups panel at the Corn-
munity Planning Conference for
Israel last Sunday. Religious
Bond workers pledged them-
!
selves to the • following objec-
tives:
1. Bond committees will call on every
member of every congregation to make
sure he is a purchaser.
2. Mixed committees wit h 'members
drawn from several congregations will
press for cash on all commitments.
3. Bond sales progress will be noted
weekly at Sunday report breakfasts.
4. A Bond-selling reception and mass
meeting in honor of Chief Rabbi Unter-
man of Tel Aviv is scheduled for De-
cember 13 and 15.
5. The old meaning of Hanukah `gelt"
will be restored with a Hanukah Week
in each synagogue to sell Bonds as gifts.
One of the sparkplugs of the
Mizrachi Bond drive in Detroit
has been the executive director,
Zvi Tomkevich. Grandson_ of the
famous Rabbi Yitzchok. Yaakov
Reines, a founder of the Miz-
rachi movement, Mr. Tomkevich
was a leading businessman and
member of Mizrachi in pre-Hit-
ler Poland. He is a survivor of
