Israel Woman Wins
Ph.D. for Hebrew Thesis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (JTA)-7,
A rare thesis—a discussion o
Jewish philosophy written en-
tirely in Hebrewhas been sub-
mitted by a young woman from
Israel who was one of the 20
women to receive the Doctor of
Philosophy degree from Rad-
cliffe College at commencement
exercises. It is the first doctoral
dissertation written in Hebrew
at Radcliffe College or Harvard
University.
The 350 pages of Hebrew text
were printed by Mrs. Sara 0.
Heller Wilensky on a Hebrew
typewriter. A 100-page summary
in English accompanied the text.
Mrs. Wilensky, who was born in
Safed, Israel, came to the United
States four years ago to study
under Dr. Harry A. Wolfson, Na-
than Littauer, Professor of He-
brew Literature and Philosophy.
Her thesis is a philosophical dis-
cussion of the plat , ! of the work
of a Mediaeval Jewish philoso-
pher, Arama, in the syStem of
Philo.

UNITED NATIONS, N. Y.
(JTA) —Robert B. MacAtee, for-
mer Consul-General in Jerusa,7
lean, has been appointed acting
United States representative on

the advisory commission of the
UN Relief and Works Agency
for Palestine.

ALLEN'S

expressed his surprise "how peo-
ple in general and Arabs in par-
ticular have forgotten Israel,
which is lurking amidst the
Arab world to create problems,
only three years after the Pales-
tine war. I assert that our great
concern is the Jews. Were it not
for them, there would be no
cause for concern in the Arab
East."
