Cooking Israel's Small Rations

Northwest Tales

At a maabara—temporary work camp—in Israel, a little girl
is given a once-over by the doctor and nurse of a mobile medical
unit. She is one of the newcomers who have been pouring into
Israel at the record rate of one immigrant every two minutes,
with the help of the Unietd Jewish Appeal. To bring an addi-
tional 60,000 Jews to Israel by the end 1951, and to speed vital
life-saving programs, UJA must have $35,000,000 in cash for the
United Palestine Appeal, Joint Distribution Committee and United
Service for New Americans.
