Betrothal Announced'
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Bernstein have just returned from a three
week stay at the El Mirador Hotel, Acapulco, Mexico.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Garelik have returned to their home on
Pennington Dr., following a four-week visit with relatives in Bev-
erly Hills, Calif.
Mr. and MrS. William Berman, of Whitmore Rd., drove to
Miami Beach where they are spending several weeks at the Mar-
tinique Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Selden Koblin, of Roselawn Ave., have returned
from an extended visit in San Francisco, Los Angeles and other
west coast cities.
Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Shlain, of Covington Dr., are vacation-
ing in Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Fishman and daughter, Dena, of
Outer Dr., are spending a few weeks in Miami, Fla.
A shower honoring Sheila Millman on her forthcoming marriage
was tendered by Mrs. L. Magid and Mrs. K. Adler at Mrs. Magid's
home on March 6.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Malamud, accompanied by their children,
Rita and Danny, will leave for Israel Tuesday, March 20.
Mrs. Walter Field has left for Los Angeles where she will visit
for a few weeks with her sister, Miss Sarah Densen.
Mrs. Harry Conheim, of 16161 Lawton, has recently returned
from a five-week visit with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. C. N. Ascheim, of Cincinnati, 0.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Laib of Burlington Rd. have returned
from a month's stay in Palm Beach, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor W. Klein and their son, Robert, of
Stratford Rd., left on Wednesday to spend a few days in Wash-
ington, D. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Enggass of Cumberland Way left on
Monday for Palm Beach where they plan to spend a few weeks.
Dr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Levin of Canterbury Rd. left on Satur-
day by plane for a 10-day stay in Bermuda.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Burak of Longfellow Ave. are spending
a fortnight in Palm Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Klein of Chicago Blvd. left on Wednesday
by plane for 10 days in Mexico.
Dr. and Mrs. Louis A. Schwartz and their son Steven of Argyle
Crescent left on Thursday to spend a few days inWashington, D. C.
Miss Selma Sampliner of the Chatham Apt. returned on Mon-
day from Los Angeles where she visited with members of her
family.

this week . announced that it
ships to Israel only new gar-
ments made by sewing and knit-
ting groups.
People who wish to send used
clothing which is thoroughly
clean and serviceable condition
may do so themselves by mailing
packages, up to 22 pounds in
weight, and paying the postage.
The maximum charge is $3.90.
Such packages, addressed to
Mrs. Dov Joseph, chairman, Ma-
terial to Israel Committee, Jer-
usalem, Israel, will be cleared
without customs and distributed
by government authorities to
the thousands of people still liv-
ing in the immigration camps.
The items most needed are
blankets, sweaters, coats, shoes,
jackets, warm jeans, pants,
skirts, underwear, stockings,
rainwear, infants and children's
warm clothing.
In case the individual has only
clothes for children, packages up
to 44 pounds may be sent to
Child and Youth Aliyah Depart-
ment, 4 bis Rue de Lota, Paris,
16e, France. The postage in this
case is 14 cents per pound and
must likewise be paid by the in-
dividual sender.
Hundreds of friends and as-
sociates of Norman Cottler in
the labor Zionist movement
came to_ greet him and his son
and their families last week on
the occasion of the opening of
their Dexter-Davison Market on
Wyoming and Curtis.
Isaac Hamlin, national secre-
tary of the National Labor Com-
mittee for Israel, who was in
Windsor, geared his schedule to
be here on Thursday to visit
with the Cottlers and to join the
Cottler's friends in the celebra-
tion of the opening of their im-
pressive new market.
Mr. Cottler, treasurer of the
1951 Histadrut Israel Campaign,
is one of the most active lead-
ers in Arlazaroff Branch of Far-
band and in all labor Zionist
efforts.

First Teachers' Institute To Brandeis U. Library
The religious schools of six
congregations in cooperation
with the Midrasha will sponsor
a Teachers' Institute on "The
Teaching of Prayer" at the
Northwest Hebrew C o n g. o n
Sunday morning and afternoon,
April 1.
The Institute, first of its kind
in Detroit, will feature a lec-
ture by Rabbi David Cedarbaum,
supervisor of the Board of Jew-
ish Education in Chicago. The
program also includes round
tables conducted by representa-
tives of the various schools, a
special session on audio-visual
aids and a discussion of teach-
ing standards in Detroit.
Participating congregations in
addition to Midrasha include
Beth Aaron, Bnai Moshe, Beth
El, Israel, Northwest Hebrew
and Shaarey Zedek.
Brandeis University in Wal-
tham, Mass., this week received -
an addition to its Walt Whit-
man collection from Charles
Feinberg, 872 W. Boston Blvd.,
in the name of the Detroit
Chapter of the Women's Com-
mittee . for Brandeis University.
The group of writings and
biographical material about the
famous American author was
started by Feinberg in 1949, and •
includes many first additions
and rare volumes to be used for
research and study in the li-
brary of America's first Jewish-
sponsored non-sectarian college.

$60,000 JNF Contribution
Honors Ukranian Zionist

and Mrs. Samuel Gutlin of this
city have donated $60,000 to the
Jewish National Fund for a new
settlement in Israel in memory
of Mr. Gutlin's father, Nahum
Gutlin, who, as Hamatif Lezion,
