Women's Organizations Are Hostesses
At 6 April Campaign Report Meetings

An enthusiastic audience that
filled every available seat in the
Ross Sittig Cohen auditorium
Monday evening gave a hearty
welcome to Shin Shalom, noted
Israel 'poet who is in this coun-
try on a cultural mission.
The guest emphasized the
partnership between world Jew-
ry and Israel. He described the
heroism of the defenders of the
Jewish state, their determination
to build the land against all
odds, the manner in which some
settlements were built during
the Arab threats by planting at
night and standing watch dur-
ing the day.
Bernard Isaacs presided. Mr.
Shalom was introduced by Rab-
bi Morris Adler who described
the poet's work in a Hebrew ad-
dress. Others participating in
the program included Israel El-
pern, Elissa Panush, Philip Slo-
movitz and a choir directed by
Moe Kesner,

Mr. Lieberman said.
Mr. Rabinovitz will shortly
take over his new duties as
executive secretary of the Gov-
ernor's Youth Commission.
JNWA Opens Manoth
Branch in Detroit
A Detroit branch of Manoth,
official Gifts to Israel Service of
the Israeli War Veterans is
being set up in cooperation with
the Jewish National Workers
Alliance.
Manoth is the recently estab-
lished organization of war vet-
erans in Israel, associated with
the Labor Zionist fraternal order
"Farband."
Through its offices the De-
troit community will be able to
send food packages to indivi-
duals and gifts to kibutzim and
other Israel institutions at re-
duced rates and ration free.

The Jewish Community Cen-
ter has opened registration for
Camp Chelsea. The season will
be from July 2 to Aug. 27. Sam
Marcus, supervisor of the 12th
St. Council Center will be camp
director.
Camp Chelsea is located on
Grass Lake, Mich. Adult women,
mothers, and their children,
aged 3 to 8, are eligible to at-
tend.
Kashruth is strictly observed
and regular Sabbath services are
held for the campers and staff.
A complete program is main-
tained for adult campers, with
activities planned by a self-gov-
erning mothers' council aided
by a professional counselor. .
Nursery school activities and
camp routines available for the
children include: sports, arts
and crafts, swimming and boat-
ing, dramatics, singing games,
etc.

Reports from Israel of the
establishment of a Magen David
Adorn first aid station and am-
bulance service in the former
Arab village of Madjadal have
reached the headquarters of the
American Red Mogen David, 225
W. 57th St., New York. The
American Red Mogen David is
in the midst of a membership
campaign to assist Israel's coun-
terpart of the Red Cross. Mad-
jadal is now called by its old
Hebrew name, Migdal Gad.
Hungary contains about 135,-
000 Jews.

Begin Fresh Air Camp
Registration Sunday
"Speedster" range!
Registration for the 1950 sea-
son at the Fresh Air Camp will
begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at the
Jewish Center, Woodward and
Holbrook, it was announced by
Barney Smith, Fresh Air Society
president.
Boys and girls, 7 to 15, will be
accented for three-week camp-
ing periods. The regular fee is
$22 per week, but through the
efforts of the Detroit Communi-
ty Chest and other private so-
cial agencies, a number of camp-
erships are available for those
who cannot pay the full rate.
Beginning its 23rd season at
its present site on Blaine Lake,
near Brighton, Mich., the Fresh
Air Camp will continue its vari-
ed program for the 230 children
who will attend each period.
The Sheruth Outpost, establish-
ed at Kensington Park last sum-
mer, will be moved to the so-
ciety's new site near Ortonville,
Mich. This site, which covers
600 acres of rolling country and
includes two private lakes, will
provide opportunity for primi-
tive camping experience for old-
er campers.
The camp will continue its op-.
erations under the administra-
tration of Irwin Shaw, execu-
tive director, and Robert Luby,
assistant director. Mrs. Samuel
Chapin is registrar.
