The guest emphasized the partnership between world Jew- ry and Israel. He described the heroism of the defenders of the Jewish state, their determination to build the land against all odds, the manner in which some settlements were built during the Arab threats by planting at night and standing watch dur- ing the day. Bernard Isaacs presided. Mr. Shalom was introduced by Rab- bi Morris Adler who described the poet's work in a Hebrew ad- dress. JNWA Opens Manoth Branch in Detroit A Detroit branch of Manoth, official Gifts to Israel Service of the Israeli War Veterans is being set up in cooperation with the Jewish National Workers Alliance. Manoth is the recently estab- lished organization of war vet- erans in Israel, associated with the Labor Zionist fraternal order "Farband."
