ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Wolf of West Boston Blvd. left on
Thursday for a short stay in the east where they will visit their
son, Pfc. Robert Wolf, who is stationed at Fort Monmouth, N. J.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Soss of Muirland Ave. were hosts to a
group of friends at dinner at their home last Saturday evening.
Miss Ruth Welling, who was recently graduated from the Uni-
, versity of Wisconsin, has returned from Madison, Wiss., and is re-
siding with her father, Dr. Benjamin D. Welling, at the Belcrest
Hotel.
Dr. and Mrs. E. Lipkin and daughter, Eleanor, will spend, the
week-end in Chicago where they will go to hear their son and
brother, Seymour, in concert with Efrem Zimbalist. This concert
will conclude a tour by the two musicians.
Mrs. Harold J. Baskin and daughters, Iryce and Saundra, have
returned from a visit in California.
Mrs. Bernard Brown and her small daughter, Lynn, of the
Highland Towers, will leave this Friday for New York City to join
Lt. Brown who is stationed there.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Copeland and their daughter, Paula, of
Parkside Ave. are spending a few days in Chicago. Miss. Copeland's
fiance, Lt. Sidney Rosenberg, accompanied them.
Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Wittelshofer of West Boston Blvd. enter-
tained a .group of friends at a dinner in their home last Saturday
evening.
Paul -Beisrnan has returned to his home in St. Louis after a few
days' visit with his aunt, Mrs. Joseph Beisman, and his cousins, Mr.
and Mrs. Joshua Sarasohn of Atkinson Ave.
Dr. and Mrs. Leo A. Greenblatt of Whitmore Rd. left on Tuesday
for New York City where they will spend a fortnight.
Ensign and Mrs. Jacob Keidan are visiting their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Joseph Keidan of Calvert Ave. and Mr. and Mrs. Isaac
Shetzer of of Chicago Blvd.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Greenfield of Glynn Ct. left on Sunday
to spend a few weeks in Hot Springs, Ark .
Miss Edna Welling returned on Monday to her home in Petos-
key following a short visit with her brother, David M. Welling of
Webster Hall.
Sgt. Sherman Schwartz, who is on furlough from Fort Sheridan,
Ill., is visiting with Mrs. Schwartz of Clements Ave.
Mrs. Harry Cole of the Belcrest Hotel returned on Tuesday from
Kansas City, Mo., where she has been for the last month, visiting
with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Sloman.
Mr. and Mrs. Irving J. Shevin and their son, Kenneth, of
Parkside Ave. are vacationing in Hollywood, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Rosenbaum of Boston Blvd. are spending a
few days in Washington, D; C.
Lt. (s.g.) Allan H. Kline has been transferred from Providence,
R. I., to Camp Parks, Shoemaker, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Mittenthal of Warrington Rd. left on Tues-
. day to spend a month in Los Angeles where they will be guests at
the. Ambassador Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sachs, formerly of Cortland Ave., have
returned from a few weeks' stay. in Miami Beach, Fla., and are at
present residing with Mrs. Sachs' brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Hiram D. Kaufman of 17375 Monica.
Pvt. Max Schreiber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Schreiber of
Warrington Rd., left on Wednesday to report to his post at Fort
Sheridan, Ill.
Mrs. Louis M. Dunn of Hazelwood Ave. returned on Thursday
from a short stay in Hot Springs, Ark.
Mrs. Bernard Goldberg (Lillian Radom) left last week for Santa
Monica, Calif., where she will join her husband, Lt. Goldberg, who
is stationed there.
Top Sgt. and Mrs. Richard Lazar are visiting Mrs. Lazar's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Papo of Tuxedo Ave., and Sgt. Lazar's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Lazar of Sturtevant Ave. Sgt. Lazar
is stationed at Wright Field, Dayton, 0. .
The Bar Mitzvah of Leonard Raskin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Raskin of 2075 Philadelphia Ave., was celebrated at a reception at
Lachar's Hall, last Sunday. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. Mor-
ton Raskin of Chicago and Eddie Robinson, S 3/c, who is stationed
at Great Lakes, Ill.
Mrs. Gerald L. Cohen (Corinne Goldman) of Appoline Ave.
has left to visit her husband, Lt. Cohen, in Monroe, La. Lt. and
Mrs. Cohen will then leave for Texas where Lt. Cohen will be an
instructor in the Air Corps.
Honoring Miss Beatrice Weisenthal, bride:elect of Feb. 27,
Mrs. Harry Faber, Mrs. Anna Kasdan and Mrs. Harry Goldsmith
entertained 130 guests at a miscellaneous shower -at the Wilshire
on Feb. 2. Mrs. Sidney F. Goodfriend, Miss Sophie- Blatt and Miss
Evelyn Lipson entertained at a personal brunch shower for 40
guests at the Belcrest on Feb. 6.

Jews in Port. Huron
Help Filt Bond Quota

To augment the unfilled quota
in the Fourth War Lban - drive in
Port Huron, an appeal was made
during the Friday night services
in Port Huron. Pledges for a total
of $6,500 were receiyed through
the efforts of. Jule J. Levy, Ber-
nard Konop and David Farber.
At the last Friday night serv-
ices Rev. Dr. N. Bichterman ad-
dressed the Mt. Sinai Congrega-
tion on the work of the Red
Cross. Rabbi S. S. Auerbach has
been invited to serve on the local
Red Cross Committee and on its
speakers' bureau.

Through the efforts of Mt.
Sinai Sunday school, a Hamisha
Asar action in behalf of the JNF
was conducted and 22 trees were
planted in Palestine.

Fifth Holiday Hop
This Sunday Night
The fifth Holiday Hop of the
Jewish Community Center will
be held Sunday night in the
main auditorium. It will be a
Lincoln-Washington Dance, and
the decorations will carry out
this motif. Victor Recording ar-
tist LeRoy Smith and his or-
chestra are returning by popu-
lar demand to play for this
this event. Prizes will be given
and refreshments will be avail-
able.

Women Hebraists
Conduct Program

The Hamishah Asar b'Shevat
celebration of Kvutzah Ivrith,
the Hebrew cultural group, last
Saturday evening, at the Rose
Sittig Cohen Building, w a s
unique. The. entire program, in
Hebrew, was sponsored by . the
women Hebraists.

The chairman, Mrs. Yonina
Mathis, gave a digest of Yitz-
chok Lamdon's famous poem
"Masada". Mrs. Ruth Chanin
read excerpts from the Pales-
tinian sketch writer, Moshe Vil-
konsky. Mrs. Solomon Kasdan
delivered an interesting address
on the meaning of Hamishah
Asar.

Miss MiriamGold spoke about
that famous poetess, Elishevah,
and her most noted poems.

Elishevah, a Christian, studied
the Hebrew language and be-
came so enamored with Hebrew
literature and Hebraic thoughts
that she settled in Palestine and
became a famous Hebrew poet.

Palestinian songs were sung
by Mrs. Faye Ackerman and
Miss Drora Selesny. Palestinian
and -Chassidic songS were rend-
ered. by Mrs. Morris Plafkin,
accompanied on the piano by
Miss Bella Goldberg.
