In pledging himself to further
the aims of the present admini-
stration, John A. Smith, progres-
sive, liberal and labor endorsed
candidate for the office of coun-
cilman, reiterated his former
stand.
Smith, who has received en-
dorsements from numerous Jewish
organizations as well as eminent
leaders, urged all the people to
carry themselves with dignity in
order to earn the respect of the
world and fulfill their pledge of
citizenship by working toward
good government. This, he stated,
could be accomplished by exercis-
ing the right to vote at each elec-
tion.
Smith, received his education at
Wayne University and the De-
troit College of Law, as well as
consciensciously and capably serv-
-----

ing the public for the past thir-
teen years in the office of the
City Election Commission, where
he was recently promoted to chief
assistant. His legal training and
keen knowledge of human values
have enabled him to cope with
numerous intricate problems.
Asked about his aims if elected,
Smith commented that he would
seek additional housing facilities,
added social and recreational cen-
ters, more Receiving hospital units
for outlying communities as well
as better sewage control.
