BOSTON-Boston pulled into a
virtual fourth - place American
League tie with Detroit yesterday
by beating the Tigers 7-0 on Frank
Sullivan's two-hit pitching.
The victory was the Red Sox'
14th in the last 16 games.
The Sox have a .515 percentage
on a 34-32 record - a slim point
behind Detroit's .516 and 32-30
record.
DODGERS 7, CUBS 4
CHICAGO - A pair of bases-
loaded singles by Pee Wee Reese
and Gil Hodges for four runs in
the seventh gave the Brooklyn
Dodgers a 7-4 victory over the

The loss dropped the Cubs into
third place, one percentage point
behind idle Milwaukee.

to the Indians by the Orioles,
rapped out four hits and knocked
in as many runs. He also drew a
base on balls.

Turley handcuffed Kansas City

WASHINGTON - Harry Byrd
scored his second straight victory
for the Chicago White Sox since

Bill Virdon backed up the seven-
hit pitching of rookie Floyd Wool-

Phils a 7-1 defeat.
It was Wooldridge's first victory
against one loss.
The home run blows came in
the fourth inning and gave St.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Mike$
Fetchick, a dark horse from Ma-
hopac, N.Y., checked in with a 68
in the twilight to lead the first
round of the Western Open Golf
championship here Thursday.
Fetchick, unmentioned in talk
of pre-tourney favorites, shot a
spectacular 31 on the front nine
and came in with the regulation
37 to beat the Portland Golf
Club par 35-37 by four strokes.
His score matched the card,
turned in by Smiley Quick. Quick
was deprived of a tie for the lead
after opponents complained he
was carrying 15 clubs in his bag,
one above the limit.
