Michigras
,announces
58 Theme
By CAROL SHAPIRO
"Ventures in Ventions" has been
chosen for the 1958 Michigras
theme by Central Committee
members.f
Magenta and chartreuse shave
also been chosen as the Michigras
colors.
The 1958 theme will be a ven-
ture in inventions, or more clev-
erly put and the theme of thel
weekend, "Ventures in Ventions."
The theme was selected because of:
its broad field of interest to spec-
tators.
Challenging Theme
"Ventures in Ventions" would
be a challenge to those people di-
reetly connected with the staging
and behind the scenes work of
Michigras. With the theme of
inventions, Michigan students will
have an opportunity to show their
creative talents.
,For those of a conservative na-
ture a float or booth theme might
be picked'from the numerous his-
torical inventions of the past.
Others more concerned with the
present will most likely be more
interested in modern or relatively
4 modern inventions.
However, the theme is not limit-
ed to only historical or modern
inventions. Those possessing' less
inhibitions and a wild imagina-
tion may want to unveil an inven-
tion of their own creation.
Give Late Permission
/ The two day event is to take
place April 25 and 26 with late
permission of 1:30 a.m. on Satur-
day being provided for women stu-
dents.
Although Michigras weekend
seems far away, work has already
begun ont the carnival weekend.
Publicity co-chairmen Sandi Sol,
'58, and John Kirkendall, '60,
have recently announced fifteen
sub-chairmen for the publicity
committee.
They are as follows: Joyce

FRAME THOSE -EYES:
Coeds Wear Glasses
As Beauty Accessory

By NANCY VERMULLEN
"Men never make passes at girls
who wear glasses."
What an outmoded adage that
is! Eyeglasses have come to be
such an important beauty acces-
sory that many of them ordered
by women today are actually
filled with window glass!
The fir'st thing to consider in
choosing eyeglass frames is your
face. Its shape - oval, square, trite
angular or round - should be the
key to the frame-shape you
choose.
For Tall Faces
For a tall face, the recommen-
dation goes this way: Choose
frames with definite strength in
theirshape; square frames, or
substantial, side-winged ones.
A square face is softened by
round frames of black plastic or
tortoise. Winged frames also help
to balance the jawline.
A triangular face benefits from
less lens area and quite slim
frames with not much breadth in
the temple area, while a round
face needs very light or very dark
frames to emphasize the eye area
and width at the top to offset
roundness.
Guides for Frames
Eye and hair color are good
guides in choosing frames in the
right hue for you. Deep blue is
flattering on blondes, and red
heads fined cocoa the best choice
for them. Warm red is especially
lovely on brunettes.
Choose your glasses with care,
for they are your most important

accessory. Lenses should be large
enough so they won't cut off the
outer edge of the eye. Crowding
the eyes makes them look smaller
and closer together. Remember
that the width across the top of
your frames should be equal to
the width of cheekbones.
Try for the uncluttered look if
you wear glasses. Avoid the too-
busy look of flowers, feathers and
veiling near the face. Also, don't
make your glasses compete with
over-ornate" earrings and .neck-
laces.
