DAILY CLASSIFIED ADS

An open house of the Univer-
sity's new meteorological labora-
tory will be held today from 2 p.m.
to 4 p.m. in 5500 East Engineering
Building.
The open house will be the first
held by the laboratory which was
completed last year. There will be
conducted tours of installations
both in the laboratory and on the
roof.
Indoor and outdoor demonstra-
tion of experiments and research
techniques will also be held with
stress on research and teaching
facilities.

There will be eight displays, the
most important and largest being
a project involving rag weed. "Re-
search projects in the rag weed
are presently being conducted in
the Jackson State Prison," Prof.
E. Wendell Hewson of the engi-
neering department said.
"This project not only involves
the meteorology people but also
those in medicine, botany, public
health, and the literary school."
A survey of the site of the Em-
rico Fermi Atomic Power Plant
near Monroe, Michigan, is anotly'
er important project of the me-
teorological department mentioned
by Prof. Hewson.
"The meteorology department is
putting special emphasis in de-
veloping applied meteorology for
health, medicine and engineering
purposes. It is probably putting
more stress on this phase of me-
teroology than any other univer-
sity in the world," Prof. Hewson
asserted.
The release of a radiosonde bal-
loon, recording weather instru-
ments, mobile weather station,
laboratory cloud seeding, ragweed
pollen sampling methods, and ob-
servatino of rain drop sizes will
constitute the bulk of the displays.
