Taxi Shortage Gives
Ooo Tough Sledding
The Dean of Student's office an-
nounced today that, "Students
need not register dog-sleds or ob-
tain special licenses for them from
the University."
This action was prompted by
the case of Ooo Goo, a transfer
student from the University of
Alaska at Sitka'. Ooo was plan-
ning to attend the Friday night
session of the J-Hop. In keeping
with the tradition established in
the Mihiganetiquette and other
semi-official campus publications
that, "No woman should be asked
to walk to a formal dance while
wearing a formal," he attempted
to order a taxi on Wednesday of
this week.
Two of the taxi companies would
not accept an order that long in
advance, and a third hung up
thinking it to be a practical joke.
(Ooo speaks only an Esquimo dia-
lect, but considers this no handi-
cap, since he is a student in the
engineering school.)
At six o'clock on Friday o
again called the two taxi com-
panies, both of which promised
taxis for 10:15. At eleven o'clock,
Ooo, in a fit of pique, left for
titka on a mission to borrow his
father's ddg-sled.
The nation watches with rapt
interest as Ooo is now 17 miles
from Ann Arbor (he is traveling
on snow shoes) and has only 22,-
083 miles to go till he reaches Port-
land, Oregon where he intends to
pick up the Alcan Highway.
Book makers the world over are
taking bets as to whether -or not
he will arrive in time for the
J-Hop, and whether it will be in
1948 or 1949.
