MANY EXHIBITS SHOWN
Gathering for the largest conven-
tion in its history,; the American
' oundrymen's association is now
holding its thirtieth anunal session at
the Michigan state fair grounds, eon,-
tinuing the various meetings until
Friday.
More than 100 foreign delegates to
this meeting, and to the second inter-
national foundrymen's congress which
is being held in conjunction with the
'association's gathering, have arrived
in Detroit. Belgium, France, Ger-
many, Great Britain, Italy, Spain,
and Switzerland are among the coun-
tries represented at the congress.
C. E. Hoyt, executive secretary of
the association, has written Dean M.
E. Cooley of the engineering school
offering free admission to the conven-
tion for all University students and
for the engineering faculty. Students
interested in plant visitation trips to
the convention should communicate
immediately with Prof. . W. Boston,
superintendent of shops, who has'
charge of arrangements.I
Technical programs, and a complete
foundry exhibit, with many exhibition
plants in full operation, will occupy
all avaiable space in the agricultural
building, the coliseum, and the dairy
barn at the state fair grounds, a total
floor space of nearly 100000 square
feet. The exhibition halls will be
open every morning and afternoon
from 8:30 to 5:30 P. M. until Friday.

Prof. Edgar Johnson Goodspeed of
the Divinity School of the Ujnversity
of Chicago, Prof. William C. Morro of
the College of Missions at Indanapo-
ids hid 'Prof. W. S. Woodburne of Ma-
rt* ihristiaa college at Madras, In-
diaj will complete the staff of the
Michigan School of Religion for the
years ccording to an announcement
mad' recently by Prof. LeRoy Wa e-
man, directorj of the school.
Professor Goodspeed, who will give
courses on the literature and the for-
nmation and history of the new testa-
ment has recently gained a great deal
of popular commendation for his new
translation of the new testament,
which is one of the best known recent
works in the field and well known to
students of the bible. He will give a
lectuf" Monday on "Why Translate
the New Testament ?"
Professor Woodburne who comes to
Michigan from Madras, is well known
for his works on religion and has
taughti in the Christian college at Ma-
dras," which is one of the largest
schools in India, for a larger part of
the last twenty years.
A recent survey in Denmark shwwed
about 70,000 radio sets in use. in
Copenhagen !there Are 48,000 sets, 351
per cent of them tube sets.

-Despite the graduation of 19 of its
members, of1i9i'als of the Varsity band
'have expectations of producing one
of the best musical units in the history
of the organization. Although 'its
size will again be limited to 75, moreI
than ,360 musicians ;registered lastf
week in the booth set aside for the
purpose in Waterman gymnasium.
*Many of last year's organization
'have signified their intentions of play-
ing again this season and, in addition,
have interested 'possible new material '
during the summer. Two bands will'
be maintained again this. year, one
regular 'and one reserve. Those in-
eligible during the first semester may
play in the reserve unit until the au-
thorities allow them to take part in
activities.
Tryouts will be continued this after-
noon at 4 o'clock in Morris hall. All
students able to play any band instru-
ment are urged to be present.
Mrs. Jack Dempsey, who missed the
coronation of Gene Tunney, is to 'see
a new champion shortly. She is to at-
tend the World 'series with her hus-
band.
