MICHIGAN HOSPITALITY
Not much attention has been paid in
recent years to the matter of making
visiting teams and followers feel wel-
come at Michigan. There has not been
consistent or marked indication of in-
hospitality, but, on the other hand,
there has been no effort in the other
direction. Outsiders have come and
gone, and the average student has not

bothered himself to consider whether
they were treated indifferently. The
only possible result has been that
Ann Arbor is not considered as an
especially cordial place to visit when
one comes in the guise of an opponent.
The. criticism would be common-
place if the remedy were not so acces-
sible. As a collective manifestation
of good will, the Michigan Union might
send a general invitation to the stu-
dent authorities of any college whose
team was about to start for Ann
Arbor, extending the liberty of its
building to the visitors. Whether the
privilege were used or not, it would be
appreciated. Perhaps it might be
even more convincing if the Union
were to print open-house cards and
send them in advance to the prospec-
tive guests, in care of representative
students.'
When the visitors have once arrived
in the city, individual students can
play a large part in making them feel
welcome. It should not be considered
bad form for any malt to go up to aI
group of such strangers,' offering his
help in showing them the campus and
in explaining local matters. Michigan
played the role of a good-natured
guest last Saturday; she now has the
opportunity to act as a courteoushost.
