LOST, VOTES.
Yesterday an athletic association
election was held under conditions
which have created considerable dis-
content. To The Daily, there, is. no"
doubt. that the requirements. for vot-
ing, resulting as they. did in the prac-
tical. disfranchisement of a number of
bona fide mexnbers. of the, association,
were ill-advised and worked. an. injus-
tice. Whether a legal wrong was in-
volved, the constitution of the. associ-
ation and the courts' decision as to
the reasonableness of..the requirements
for voting, only, can decide. At pres-
ent, it >lies within the power of the
board of directors and the board in
control to, reconsider ,the matter._and
do its best to correct the injustice.
SOPH OUT!
The freshmen need feel no grief
over their failure to keep possession
of the center flag in yesterday's rush.
Rather should the sophomores feel
qualms over; the way in which, it be-
came their property. The second year
man who went into the freshman
ranks, passing off as a freshman, and
gaining a vantage point o~n their shoul-
ders which made the climbing of the
pole easy, violated all rules of fair
play and brought harm to a Michigan
tradition.
Everything is fair in love and in war,
soincone has said, but underclass con-
tests do not come within this classifica-
tion. Among the disorganized fresh-
men such deception was not even clev-
er. Even if clever, deception should'
be kept' out of matters which are sup-
posedly settled on their merits alone.
The student council took the only
course possible in awarding the cen-
ter pole to the freshmen. At the next
rush, it might well take precautions
which would prevent any repetition of
this morning's occurrence.
GET A TICKET.
It's high time for those who intend
to take advantage of the list of big{
attractions offered by the oratorical
association this year, to arrange for
season tickets. Booker T. Washington
appears tomorrow, and Katherine Ol-
iver McCoy on Tuesday. The ticket
should be purchased tomorrow. 1
In addition to lecture numbers by;
distinguished people, season tickets
will .admit to all. oratorical, and -debat-
ing events, fields in which the univer-.
sity has always excelled and fields
worthy of support and further develop-
ment. If such a ticket only,, admitted
its holder to the annual Chicago or<
Northwestern debate, that would be
sufficient reason for its, purchase; in-
stead it goes further and offers a list

'Twas eight bells of a rainy night,
Ye, editor was wearied;
The desk towered high with. unread~
scrip,
Thenmidnight bells were ciminng;
He had a grouch, his brain was tired;
His rhymer was not rhymng.
And Tom below for copy bawled,
And cubs ran to ;and fro;
They clamored at ye editor,
And trod upon his toe.
In fact, the night was full of -grief,
The room was fullof smoke;
It was a ver! poorly time
To crack a poorly joke.
In closing up our tale of woe,,
It might be well to state,

We felt a little cheap on two distinct
occasions at the game yesterday. One
time was when we saw the unbounded
spirit of M. A. C. rooters 'while their
team was losing, and another was
when we heard the farmer's band,
fifty pieces strong, play The Victors."
If We Were Only Sincere.
"I~ didn't have such an awful good

cause that nasty Minxamora Dells-

crowd our house with boys on Sunday
afternoons, and you're not homely
genug to be 'rated as the cute thing."
It- is understood that a ocal under-
taker has made grave charges against
a stude named Smith. - The case is un-
usual and will doubtless be a mon-
mental one in the history' of the local
courts..
