was made on the recbmmendation of
the department of commerce.
The British government has had a
commission working on .the problems
of greater safety of ships for some
time and the conference is an out-
growth 'of this commission.
BATTLE OF LEIPZIx TO BE
OBSERVED BY CELEBRATION
Professor Warren W. Florer of the
German department will give an illus-
trated lecture on "Leipzig, Stuttgart,
and the Rhine" at the 100th anniver-
sary of the Battle of Leipzig. The cel-
ebration will be held in the high
school auditorium tomorrow evening
at 8:00 o'clock under the auspices of
the German society in Ann Arbor.
Slides have been made to order for
the event.
Dr. E. Rosinger, editor of the Abend-
post, will be the out of town speaker
at the occasion. The entertainment will
be free of charge, and all students are
invited to attend.

Deep red with band of white made
up the first toque of the season, which
made its arrival on State street last
night.
Prof. Robert Fulton dean of the
school of oratory in the Ohio Wesley-
an university, and well known author,
teacher and interpreter of literature,
will open the twenty-third annual pro-
gram of the oratorical association in
University Hall Friday night at 8:00
o'clock with an offering of miscellan-
eous readings.
Professor Fulton has appeared on
oratorical association programs sever-
al times, and his always been warmly
received. With his full, rich voice, en-
gaging personality, and thorough
knowledge of his subject, he has never
failed to create a deep impression.
The ticket office in University hall
will be open Wednesday afternoon
from 4:00 to 5:30 o'clock. Tickets
may also be obtained at Wahr's and
from student sellers for $1.00.

The junior research club held its
first meeting of the year last night in
the mineralogy laboratory. Mr. P. H.

A meeting of the -reorganization
committee of the University band will
be held today to complete plans rela-
tive to putting the band upon a per-
manent basis.
Doctor Henri Hus hopes to have
four green chrysanthemums in blos-
som during the teachers convention
the last of this month. These flowers
will be the only specimens of their
kind in America.
The $225 diamond ring lost by Miss
Marie McDermott in University Hall
on Monday was found yesterday after-
noon. Miss Mary Cleveland located
the ring in the exact spot at which it
was left on Monday.
The junior women's 'section of the
Deutscher Verein elected the follow-
ing officers at a meeting last night:
president, Miss Elsie Drittler; vice-
president and treasurer, Miss Grace
Marquedant, and secretary, Miss Hul-
dah Bancroft.
