stand four to three, with Mr. Bartelme,
voting against the direct elections.
The board of directors is not likely
to elect to the board in control next
week, as was announced 'yesterday
morning by Mr. Crowe, because the
-men favoring the direct election
scheme are in power, and have pledged
themselves to forward the direct elec-
tion plan. The campus needs nothing
more than promises from these men.
The board of directors can hold a
direct election, with the help of a nom-
inating committee, and ratify the re-
sut.The spirit of the regents' rule,
at least, would be lived- up to. Or a pe-
tition can be presented to the board of
regents, which will meet on May 22.
WHY DIRECT ELECTIONS?
There are some who have asked why
there is ,a desire for direct. elections.}
The answer is that the students-who
are taxed to support Michigan athletics

into gaol?
If so, what on earth did It do?
And how does he sharpen his shoulder
blades?
I'll be hanged if I know! Do you?

He stood rooted to the spot,
Downcast and sad until,
She clasped him sweetly by the hand,
And led him up the hill. -L. S.
"Get bolder," she said, as he pecked at
her lips
But he knew she was trying to mock;
So he puzzled a while, and in similar
style,
Brought her a well rounded rock!
