CANDIDATE S.
Candidates for election for athletic
association offices will have the op-
portunity to use fifty words inThurs-
day's issue of The 31chigan Daily to
set forth their qualifications for the
benefit of the voters.
These communications must be i
the hands of the managing editor of
The Daily before 800w o'cloch tonight.
Since all the candidates have come out
in favor of the direct election plan, it
seems wasteful to use up the words on
it as a platform.
THE ISSUE.
Again we invite those opposed to the
direct election of student members of
the board in control to communicate
with us. The direct plan has certain-
ly struck a popular chord. However,
we do not care to have the standpat-
tees hold any unfair feelings regard-
ing methods used in this campaign, and
we again take occasion to warn them
that it is their own fault if their side
is not presented.
FACULTY CONTROL.f
The man who utterly condemns fac-
ulty control is a silly fool. The man
who unqualifiedly praises, is his next
door neighbor on the same street.
Faculty control is good or bad ac-
cording to circumstances. Faculty con-
trol is human, and so long as it is hu-
man it is possible to make mistakes of
judgment and justice. Harshness Is as{
much an evil as over-done leniency.
Faculty control should be nearerd
humanly perfect than student license.
It has all the advantages of age, ex-I
perience, brain-power and learning,
but it is still open to bulls, blunders
and errors.-
Faculty control is a matter of cir-

There is $250,000 in the residence
hall fund at the present time, and none
of this has been contributed by wom-
en now in the university. A new cam-
paign for funds is being conducted by
the Detroit association of Michigan
alumnae, and the local committee on
residence halls has decided to give
undergraduates an opportunity to con-
tribute what they will. Thursday,
Friday, and Saturday of this week have
been named as tag days, and contribu-
tions will be received at tables in
University hall, and the library corri-
dors.
A short play, entitled "Reveries of
a Bachelor," will feature the regulay
league party in Barbour gymnasium
Friday afternoon.
