Mao in poor health visitor says Television viewing tonight

HONG KONG IPi - China's
Mao Tse-tang is frail and in
poor health as the result of a
reported stroke suffered some
time ago but it not senile, New
Zealand Prime Minister Robert
Muldoon said yesterday after
a visit to Peking.
'Muldoon spent 10 minutes
with Mao last Friday, far less
time than the 82-year-old Chi-
nese Communist party chair-
man usually spends with for-
eign dignitaries. Muldoon said
he believed this was because of
Mao's health.

"THERE tS no doubt he is
not healthy," the prime minis-
ter said at a news conference.
A number of American and
other foreign visitors to China
in the past year have report-
ed Mao to be frail and some-
times to have trouble speaking,
but they said he had an active
and alert mind.
Muldoon said Chinese offic-
ials told him about Mao's
stroke, but they did not say
when it occurred except that
it was "some time ago."
THE CHINESE hierarchy,

probably the most aged na-
tional leadership in the world,
has been hit by several deaths
this past year, topped by the
cancer death of Premier Chou
En-lai in January at the age
of 78.
A vice chairman of the party
C e n t r a I Committee, Kang
Sheng, died Dec. 16 at the age
of 77, and Tung Pi-wu, a mem-
ber of the standing committee
of the Central Committee politi-
cal bureau, died a year ago at
the age of 90.
THE AVERAGE age of the
16 surviving members of the
Politburo is 66.
Capernicus, in 1543, published
a book saying the earth and
other planets traveled around
the sun.

Hooray for blue denim
and comfort.
Hooray for Scholl sandals.

Look whos going together now.
Scholl sandals and blue denim. How
comfortable can you get?
The jeans-look strap has contrasting
white stitching, studs (actually studded
screws) on the side and foam-padded,
soft leather underneath.
The sandal itself is cool, carved
beechwood. With exclusive toe grip.
And nonskid sole.
Only Scholl, the original exercise
sandals, feel so good and look so good.
Try on a pair and see what comfort
is all about.
Better than barefoot.
Also in leather- Bone, White, Cherry and TriColor
Look for them on the Scholl Sandal Display.
