MYSTERY ILLNESS BRINGS HOUSE DOWN
Sorority in
By MARTHA RETALLICK
For 49 members of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, it was an
old story. One moment you're feeling fine, the next you're
sick with something and no one knows what it is.
This weekend, all but 10 of the 59 women living in the
sorority house have fallen victim to a mysterious bug with
symptoms of either food poisoning or stomach flu. And,
House Director Beverly Chapdelaine says she doubts that
even the doctors who treated the residents know what it is.
IN THE MEANTIME, house member Ellen Bashnik
reports "everyone is in bed" recovering from whatever it is
they're sick with.

Bashnik, who suspects the illness was "probably foo
borne," says the house's morning cook was the first to corn
down with it Thursday morning. Then, on Friday afternoo
house members began to get sick. Four of the 49 member
stricken were treated and released at University Hospit
and the morning cook was admitted to that hospital, she said
According to Bashnik, the illness's symptoms strut
quickly. Throughout Friday and yesterday, house member
were plagued with nausea, fever, abdominal cramps
headaches, vomiting and diarrhea. But fortunately for hous
residents, the bug - whatever it is - goes away as quickly a
it comes.-
