IDGHLAND PARK - The Highland Park City Council unan
imously voted to negotiate' with different companies for the
purchase of a demo or used pumper for its fire division, waiving
the general requirementin such cases that there be an adver-
tisement for bids. ,
Council President Pro Tern Christine Franklin said she
approved the measure because there was only a limited number
of such companies in the area and none of them would be likely
to read an advertisement in the city's official paper, the Michi
gan Citizen.
However, Franklin asked the administration to make sure
that the council was informed about the bids and specifications
it rejected as well as the one it accepted, so city council members
could make an informed and independent choice.
