CHICAGO - The Nation of Islam launched an
offensive in its battle against the deadly "man-made"
AIDS virus during. Saviours' Day weekend. The
Honorable Louis Farrakhan announced, at Christ
Universal Temple on February 23, 1992, that the
. Nation of Islam (NOI) has acquired exclusive dis
: tribution rights to the AIDS treatment Immunex, an
:. oral alpha-interferon treatment developed in Kenya.
.' "I just got a call from our chief of staff three
minutes before I came to the rostrum," Minister Far-
· rakhan said, regarding the confirmation of the Im
: munex agreement that came from Leonard
: Muhammad in Kenya. "The Nation of Islam is an- '
• nouncing to you that we have the exclusive distribu-
· tion rights of Immunex throughout the United States
of America."
Minister Farrakhan also announced that Mini ter
Abdul Alim Muhammad, MD, would ume the po t
of Minister of Health and Human Services forthe NOI
• and be given a two-year leave from the ministry to·
combat AIDS. Dr. Alim told the chee ing that the war
· against AIDS is being won but the total victory will
not come "until we deal with those responsible for
making the AIDS virus."
Dr. Muhammad and former Final Call Editor-in
Chief Abdul Wali Muhammad were sent to Kenya by
: Minister Farrakhan last year on a fact-finding tour
" regarding the drug Kemron. While there, the NOI
"WE WOULD LIKE FDA approval," said Min
ister Farrakhan, "bowever we can't wait. We wilJ
take any risk, bear any burden to free our people of a
man-made disease designed. to kill us all."
The Minister added that the drug will be offered to
all who need it "regardless of race, creed or color."
Thousands viewed Minister Farrakhan's lecture at
five locations throughout the country and around the
world via atellite transmission. Unfortunately 4,000
people were turned away at the door of Christ Univer-
al Temple as well as hundred more around the
country because locations were filled \0 capacity.
Expressing his regret of having to turn thousands of
people away: the Mini ter delivered into his critical
Saviours' Day message: "Black and White: The Solu
tion to the Race Problem - A Saviour is Born."
"White people have had a job to do for God,"
Minister Fartakhan said ..... Their job was to turn the
earth into a veritable hell and begin to bum humanity
with certain kind of fire that would purify the human
being and get the human family ready for the
Kingdom of God. They have done their job well."
