When someone has sore throat. it does not nece sarily mean that he or
she has strep throat (the medical term is streptococcal pharyngitis).
Symptoms of trep throat infection range from no symptoms at all to fever,
'red throat, and painful swallowing. Lymph glands in the neck may
become enlarged-and tender. There may be white spots on the ton ils or
dark red spot on the oft pallet of the mouth. Since the e same ymptoms
can occur with a viral infection. the only certain way of determining the
pre. ence of streptococcu is with a throat culture.
Strep throat infection are caused by a pecific type of bacteria called
