HIOHLAND PARK - Charles
Costa, former candidate for Mayor
of Detroit, bas promised to belp
Highland Park after the discovery of
� bodies of three women in aban­
doned Monterey Hotel.
Costa stated that � orpnlzadon

(HOP), could put a seven-foot fence
'around the botel to keep people out
of danger.
Costa went to Mayor Lioaey
Porter with the plan. Poner ted
him to discuss It at a general meeting
of the Highland Park Neighborhood
Coalition (HPNC).
He says Mayor Porter told him,
"'We don't want outsiders taking
over. You have to talk with folks on
tbe inside.'"
Costa said his organization is
training unemployed and homel
people, Including tbose removed
from General Assistance in the mas­
sive cutoffs last year, to help board
up abandoned buildinp.
Costa said, "'You take two nega­
lives- unemployment and Aban­
doned Buildings-and make a
positive.'"
In talking about the Monterey
Hotel murden, ODe member of the
coalition urged people not to forget

there.
