The firms are trying to
head off regulation by
Congress and quell grow
ing consumer anger over
errors in data gathered by
credit reporting companies
and sold to-businesses con

A survey, conducted by
Princeton Survey Research
. Associates for the Joint
Center for Political and
Economic Studies, shows
differences between
Blacks and whites in at
titudes toward the
Japanese.
Both groups sec the
Japanese as a threat to the
U.S. eco omy, but Blacks
sec a lesser threat than
. whites. Seventy-five per
cent of Blacks h ld this
belief, compared to 84 per
cent of whites. Blacks
were al 0 less likely to at�
tribute Japanese economic
advantage to unfair trade
practices. As a result,
Black urvey respondents
were, at 51 percent, less
upportive of imposing
trade restrictions against
Japanese goods while 63
percent of white supported
re trictions. Blacks also
expres cd a belief that
Japane e attitudes toward
them would i,mprove.
