Credit Information firm. check accuracy The industry that col­ lects and sells personal credit information has hired a major accounting firm to survey the ac- 'curacy of its 450 million consumer credit files. Ar­ thur Andersen and Co. will track people who are denied credit by retailers or banks around the country to determine if rejections were based on 1 naccura te in forma tio n. Resul ts arc expected in September. The firms are trying to head off regulation by Congress and quell grow­ ing consumer anger over errors in data gathered by credit reporting companies and sold to-businesses con­ sidering people for jobs, insurance, credit and loans. Black more postltlve toward Japanese A survey, conducted by Princeton Survey Research . Associates for the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, shows differences between Blacks and whites in at­ titudes toward the Japanese. Both groups sec the Japanese as a threat to the U.S. eco omy, but Blacks sec a lesser threat than . whites. Seventy-five per­ cent of Blacks h ld this belief, compared to 84 per­ cent of whites. Blacks were al 0 less likely to at� tribute Japanese economic advantage to unfair trade practices. As a result, Black urvey respondents were, at 51 percent, less upportive of imposing trade restrictions against Japanese goods while 63 percent of white supported re trictions.
