Maia Eve Ocean
Ostroff will be called
to the Torah as a bat
mitzvah on Saturday,
Oct. 13, 2018.
Celebrating with Maia
will be her parents,
Zack and Jennifer Ostroff; her sis-
ter and brother, Noa and Eli; her
Nana and Papa, Jerry and Judy
Sima; her bubbie and zaydie, Ron
and Phyllis Ostroff.
Maia is a seventh-grade student
at Clifford H. Smart Middle School
in Commerce Township. For one
of her mitzvah projects, Maia vol-
unteered at the West Bloomfield-
based Friendship Circle’s summer
camp.

Phoebe Rose Silver,
daughter of Alesa and
Jeff Silver of
Farmington Hills, will
be called to the Torah
as a bat mitzvah at
Congregation Beth
Ahm on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018.
Phoebe is the granddaughter of
Barbara and the late Sanford
Goldansky of Overland Park, Kan.,
and Lois and Irwin Silver of
Providence, R.I.
Phoebe is an eighth-grade stu-
dent at Hillel Day School. For
her mitzvah project, she collect-
ed donations for Alternatives for

Girls, a shelter for homeless young
women and their children in
Detroit.

Aaron Louis Zekman
(Aharon Lev), son of
Esther and Richard
Zekman, will be
called to the bimah
for his bar mitzvah at
Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield on
Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, after cele-
brating his bar mitzvah in Israel.
He will be joined in celebration in
Michigan by his brothers Jonah and
Asher, as well as his grandparents
Irma Weiss and Steven Polevoy,
other family and friends. He is also
the grandson of the late Scotti
McCarthy and the late Robert
Zekman.
Aaron lives in Franklin and
attends Hillel Day School
of Metropolitan Detroit
in Farmington Hills as an
eighth-grader. His family is proud
of his fundraising efforts for
several Detroit community orga-
nizations under the umbrella of
Detroit2Nepal. His fundraising
will help WNUC 96.7FM, Detroit’s
only community radio station, SAY
Detroit Family Health Clinic and
the Prescription for Vegetables pro-
gram.
