owner of many rescued cats.
Mrs. Lieberman was the loving part-
ner for 37 years of the late Douglas
Shapiro; the devoted daughter of the
late Dr. Leonard and the late Ronnie
Linkner; the dear sister of the late
Robert Linkner.

ESTHER MAYDEN, 95, of
West Bloomfield, died
Jan. 5, 2017.
Born in Lubaczow,
Poland, Esther and her
sister bravely survived
the Holocaust that took
the lives of her mother,
Lena Weiss Sperling, her
father, Marcus Sperling, her brother Jacob
Sperling, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
After the war’s devastation, Esther
and Jack found their way from Europe to
their beloved new country. They rebuilt
their lives and raised Linda and Ted
in the Detroit area, making homes in
Detroit, Oak Park and Southfield. Esther
and Jack retired to Boca Raton, Fla., and
spent many fulfilling years thereafter in
Nashville. Esther spent her final years in
West Bloomfield. Esther’s greatest bless-
ings in her later years were her great-
grandchildren and the relationships
among family members in the United
States and Israel.
Esther and Jack persevered to restore a
close and loving family. Her survivors are
her son, Martin Ted Mayden (Barbara);
daughter, Linda Singer (the late Larry
Singer); loving grandchildren, Eric Singer
(Anna), Michael Singer, and Samantha,
Genny and Talia Mayden; her great-grand-
children, Sam and Jack Singer.
Mrs. Mayden was preceded in death
by her husband of 54 years, Jack Mayden;
her sister, Liza Rosenberg; and her
beloved son-in-law, Larry Singer.
Interment was held at West End
Synagogue Cemetery in Nashville, Tenn.
Contributions may be made to the Jewish
Federation of Middle Tennessee, the Dr.
Lawrence S. Singer Scholarship Fund for
Transfer Students at the University of
