A Staunch
Community Member

E

dward A. Katz, 97, of
Birmingham, died Jan. 4,
2017, having spent the days
before surrounded by his family
in hospice care.
He was born on May 28, 1919,
in Detroit, to Abraham and Rose
Minnie Katz.
Mr. Katz was married for
almost 60 years to the love of
his life and business partner,
Genevieve Kocot Katz, who pre-
ceded him in death in 2003. Their
various endeavors included E and
G Sales, Acme Sporting Goods,
Target Sports, Birmingham
Motors, and a number of other
business and real estate ventures.
Mr. Katz graduated from
Detroit Central High School in
1937 and then joined his par-
ents in business before serving
in the U.S. Army in World War
II. He was a member of the
10th Armored Division, 423rd
Armored Field Artillery Battalion,
which fought in the Battle of the
Bulge and was recognized as a
concentration camp liberating
unit.
After meeting and marrying
his beloved Genevieve, he and
his wife embarked on a lifetime
love affair that produced two
children, Marsha Rose Katz (Bob
Liston) and Roger Hershel Katz,
as well as many successful busi-
nesses, starting in 1946 with
Acme Sporting Goods.
After the death of Genevieve,
Mr. Katz was blessed to meet
the second love in his life, Lois
Kadushin, and she survives him.
Mr. Katz was known for his
generosity, wit, civic-mindedness,
and true goodness. He was the
first community member of the
Beaumont Health Care Human
Investigation Committee, serv-
ing for 30 years. He was also a
longtime member of the Royal
Oak Chamber of Commerce and
a former member of the City of

Mr. Katz is survived by his
daughter, Marsha Katz (Bob
Liston) of Missoula, Mont.; his
beloved grandsons, Christopher
Johnson (Tiffany) of Sonoma,
Calif., and Stephen Johnson of
Singapore; the great-granddaugh-
ters he adored, Skylar Johnson
of Singapore, and Jaden and
Genevieve Johnson of Sonoma;
and nieces, Margery Katz
Blavin (Bruce) of California and
Deborah Katz of Washington
state.
Mr. Katz was preceded in
death by his parents; his wife,
Genevieve; his son, Roger; and
his brother, Samuel Katz.
Interment was at Beth El

SARA DREW (nee Finkelman), of
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, died Dec. 31,
2016.
She was the devoted mother of

(Adrienne) Drew and Nick (Jennifer)
Drew; loving great-grandmother of
Gavin Poole, Cohen Drew, Lainey
Drew, Campell Drew and Annabeth
Drew.
Mrs. Drew was the wife of the late
Max.
Services were held at the Berkowitz-
Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel in
Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Interment
was Mt. Olive Cemetery. Family may

devoted caregiver, James Nsiah.
Mr. Fisher was predeceased by his
former wife and the mother of his chil-
dren, Lois Fisher. He was the devoted
son of the late Samuel and the late
Shirley Fisher; the loving brother of the
late Marshall Fisher.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
