died March 8, 2015.
While he was in
the concentration
camps, he helped
others to survive by
Mertz
bringing them food.
His selflessness was
a part of who he
was as a husband,
father, grandfather
and friend.
Mordechai had a
Ho Id Tier million-dollar smile
Su 'tort and a sparkle in his
eyes. He was one of
those rare people that others instant-
ly fell in love with. He was a devoted
member of the Jewish community.
He loved Israel and visited the coun-
try several times during the course
of his life. He also enjoyed a good
baseball or hockey game. He will be
greatly missed by family, friends and
the many people who had the plea-
sure of knowing him.
Mr. Mertz was the beloved hus-
band of Sheyla, to whom he had
been married 64 years. He was the
beloved father of Fred, Ada and
Diane. He is also survived by his
daughter-in-law, Cindy; sons-in-
law Yaakov and Kai; grandchildren,
David, Daniel, Baby, Maximilian and
Ruby.
Interment was at Beth Tefilo
Emanuel in Ferndale. Contributions
may be made to the Holocaust
Memorial Center, 28123 Orchard
Lake Road, Farmington Hills, MI
48334; National Kidney Foundation,
1169 Oak Valley Drive, Ann Arbor,
MI 48108; or an Israeli charity
of one's choice. Arrangements by
Hebrew Memorial Chapel.

HELEN NEWMAN,
92, of West
Bloomfield, died
March 12, 2015.
She is survived
by her children,

Marcy and Jonathan Farrell, Rebecca

cee, Jillian Stoorza; great-grandchil-
dren, Sammy, Elana, Amelie, Bailey
and Benjamin; sister-in-law, Alice
Blumberg; brother-in-law, Leonard

Forrest. She was a caring aunt, great-
aunt and great-great-aunt to many.
Mrs. Newman was the beloved
wife of the late Sidney Newman Jr.;
devoted daughter of the late Belle
and the late Moses Blumberg; cher-
ished sister of the late Shirley and
the late Eddie Persin, and the late
Richard Blumberg; dear sister-in-law
of the late Sylvia Forrest.
Interment was at Beth El
Memorial Park. Contributions may
be made to Temple Israel, the Tobias
Fund, 5725 Walnut Lake Road,
West Bloomfield, MI 48323, www.

one's choice. Arrangements by Ira

RICHARD "DICK" POPLACK, 88,
of Shelby Township, died March 8,
2015.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Denise Poplack; many loving cous-
ins, nieces, nephews, other family
members and friends.
Contributions may be made to
Henry Ford Hospice, Visiting Angels
or the Michigan Humane Society.
Interment was held at the Machpelah
Cemetery in Ferndale. Arrangements
by Dorfman Chapel.

BARBARA RAIMI,

96, of Farmington
Hills, died March
11, 2015.
She is survived
by her son and
daughter-in-law,

Hermaine Raimi of
Florida; daughters
and son-in-law, Dena and Dr. Sam
Scheinfield of Farmington Hills,
Gayle Raimi of Chicago, Ill.; grand-
children, Michael and Nikki Raimi,
Robyn and Eric Wallberg, Aaron
Scheinfield, Rachel Scheinfield;
great-grandchildren, Drewe Raimi,
Jaclyn Raimi, Levi Raimi, Dylan
Wallberg, Jacob Wallberg, Ryan
Wallberg.
Mrs. Raimi was the beloved wife
of the late Ralph Raimi.
